Burg / Schloss
At the gates of Burgundy, in 28 ha of parklands, a chateau with a landscaped arboretum, outbuildings and pool.
3 hours from Paris by the excellent A5 motorway and only 1 hour from Dijon.
On the fringe of the Burgundy and Franche-Comté region.
In a pleasant village with local convenience stores, on the slopes of two small wooded valleys with numerous springs and streams.
The property overlooks the village, and stands hidden behind its high walls. A plain gate opens on to the property from a small departmental road.
A gravel driveway bordered by the outbuildings leads to the chateau. The undulating parklands, offer a stunning view over more than 28 hectares. The current owner has lovingly planted various species of trees, some very rare, over the last thirty years. The grounds also include several water features, a river and waterfall, making use of the local sources.
The chateauBuilt of random stone and traditionally lime rendered, it spans two storeys above the cellars. The slate roof features roof dormers with triangular pediments and bulls eye windows that illuminate the attic.
Its appearance has been modified by successive works from the 17th to 19th century but the archives indicate that the Seigneury existed in 12th century and that it belonged to the Saint- Antoine religious order and then to the order of the Maltese Knights.
In 17th century it was a stronghold house, this part of the property still stands today. One extension dates back to 18th century. A second perpendicular extension was added by one of the most recent owners at the end of 19th century.
These transformations make it an original property. Upper sections with pavilions, balconies and stone terraces offer stunning panoramic views.
The two-storey hall is preceded by a little small-paned orangerie.
It features a monumental stone fireplace, a granite floor with central mosaic and walls of imitation stone. It leads in to the kitchen, on the valley side, a large lounge and small television room and then the 17th century wing.
The fitted kitchen, has a central island and is surrounded by a pantry, a wood storage room and laundry room with access to the cellars and a back staircase that leads to the upper floors.
The large lounge with vast theatrical blue wall paintings is decorated with mouldings, stringcourses, floral garlands and modillion cornices. English-style oak parquet flooring and open white marble fireplace.
French doors opens on to the terrace with a stone balustrade that dominates the parklands.
The room next door, slightly darker also opens on to the parklands and leads to a television room, study or bedroom. There is a wash basin and a toilet.
Then, a smaller hall than the previous one with cement floor tiles leads to a corridor and two rooms, one on either side. A billiard room with wainscoting and a decorated wood fireplace comes before a vaulted room, probably a former oratory. It features a marble fireplace, bay looking out of the main facade and like in the previous room a ladder pattern parquet flooring.
On the other side of the corridor, a splendid library with sculpted fireplace, oak wood flooring and ceiling mouldings. A study looking out over the parklands also has a ladder pattern parquet flooring.
The hall incorporates a 17th century staircase. It leads to a small landing and a balcony with balusters that overhangs the main entrance hall.
This floor comprises ten bedrooms. They are spacious, all have a marble fireplace and oak wood flooring. The master bedroom has French windows that open on to a balcony that dominates the parklands and surrounding countryside.
Two shower rooms as well as a bathroom with a freestanding bathtub are currently functional, and it would be easy to install additional ones if necessary.
